Yoh Shomei Aso Highland Museum Park sits atop the beautiful hills of Aso Choyo-mura, the birthplace of Yoh Shomei’s art.
In this museum, which resembles the scenes in Yoh Shomei’s pictures, you can enjoy the pictures themselves and beyond that, enjoy walking to your heart’s content on the leisurely paths laid out in the open highland.

In the exhibition rooms, you will find Jake, the canine hero of Yoh’s picture book, as well as the originals of picture book illustrations and the words of poems. The original illustrations are changed with every season. Also on exhibit are photographs of Aso by Hayama Shotei, Yoh Shomei’s younger brother and also the head of Aso Highland Museum Park, and the original drawings for Hayama’s picture book series The Blue Bee, the bee of happiness.
The Museum has a shop and a cafeteria. Please enjoy a tasty afternoon snack surrounded by Yoh Shomei’s pictures.
